I have paddled past this particular point mant times. This was painted from photogrphs taken one particular morning. It was bright, clear and calm. The trees were stunning against the blue sky and the bank of cat tails was glowing in the morning sun. It was a cool but comfortable morning and paddling was effortless across the still lake. I had paddled across the shallow bay towards the shoreline shown in the painting. Once I got across I stopped and paddled back the way I had come. I actually paddled back and forth across the bay a couple of times. I had taken my camera out and I took several photos of this shoreline from various angles.

The painting was started and completed in my studio using the photos I took that morning for reference. This was an enjoyable project and I got through it with little drama. Usually when I paint at some point I get in a panic about having screwed up the piece. I never had that with this painting.
