This painting was created by using a number of photos for reference. The tree was taken from one photo and the prairie grasslands came from a second photo and the sky was taken from a third. I rendered the grasslands as simply and quickly as I could. Likewise the field and the distant treeline were painted in the same manner. The tree trunk and the tree foliage also came together quickly and instinctively. It really is a quick sketch that turned out well. I emphasize that because it does not always work that way. Often when I start out with the intention of producing a quick intuitive piece it turns into an overworked struggle.
The painting is an oil painting on a wood panel. It is a knife painting. I did it complelely with a painting knife. I find that painting with a knife allows me to work in a much looser and instinctive style and that is what I was shooting for when I completed it in August of 2021.
As I mentioned above it is an oil painting on a 9 X 12 inch wood panel This piece is priced at $100.00.
